In addition to all sorts of meetings and more organised get-togethers, we also go out in smaller, less-formal groups for a wide range of day-events. Sketching days, exhibition visits, site visits, etc. – all sorts of things find their way into our calendar!

All events are posted here on the blog, on our Facebook page – and we tweet them as well!

Sketching Days

Llanymyech Limekilns - Oct. 2011

In October, a group of about ten of us went up to Llanymynech Limekiln and Quarry for a day’s sketching of the industrial landscape. The weather was perfect, and we used the Limey’s restored stable block for lunch and tea, and got about five hours of great sketching. There’s something really interesting about bringing together people with such diverse ways of working in the field. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we’re going to go back.

For 2012, we’ll be going up into the Berwyns for a bit of hardy winter sketching, and as the year moves on towards spring we;re thinking of heading out along Offa’s Dkye and into Shropshire.

Exhibition Visits

Small groups of us regularly head up to exhibitions in Liverpool, Manchester and across North Wales. Most recently we’ve gone up in pairs and small groups to see the Magritte and Picasso exhibitions at the Tate in Liverpool, Dark Matters in Manchester, and David Nash over in Llandudno.

Artist Talks

We’re trying to use our group’s growing size (and budget!) to try and entice notable regional artists to the Oswestry area to speak – and to try and visit some of them in their own studios. We’ve got our eyes on a couple of likely candidates, but no firm dates yet. Stay in touch – we’ll let you know as soon as possible!

Art Walks

Nothing definite planned, but a number of us are interested in doing some art walks in and around the Ceiriog Valley and Borderlands area. There are some great locations here, from the easy to reach to the difficult to get to – all of which are well worth drawing, painting and sketching. Drop us a comment if you’re interested in an art walk this spring or summer. If there are enough of us, we might look into booking a minibus so we can do a point-to-point rather than a circuit.
