In the face of fierce, widespread opposition, including from 12 eminent Archaeologists,  Shropshire Council has decided to desecrate the setting of the Old Oswestry Hillfort by allowing the building of 117 houses within its setting.

While the Council and developers,  swayed by “the smell of money”, ignore their responsibility to maintain and preserve our heritage for our children and grandchildren, HOOOH (Hands off Old Oswestry Hillfort) campaign group representing the views of over 8,000 local people and many people around the world,  are planning to to continue to honour and celebrate this amazing part of our heritage.

Artists are making works to display in The Willow Gallery Oswestry from the end of April until the end of May 2016, and some artists are exhibiting works in The Hermon Chapel and the Visitor Centre in Oswestry throughout February and March embracing the “Hug the Hillfort” event on the weekend of 13th/14th February.

If you are interested in submitting art work that references the Hillfort please get in touch with Diana.

Exhibiting in Hermon Chapel is free and no commission is charged, and Oswestry Visitor Centre is free with 30% commission. Places for The Willow Gallery are £10 with 35% commission, and now very limited

There is a meeting at Hermon Chapel to discuss the Hug the Hillfort Weekend on Thursday January 14th 2016 at 7.0pm. (refreshments available)
