IMG_0361What a superb day! The sun shone and the visitors poured in and got stuck in to lots of looking and doing, interspersed with delicious refreshments. A truly memorable occasion.

There were lots of stone painters – young and not so young, trying their luck with paints made from ash, turmeric, paprika, whiting all mixed with goats milk,  and of course, terracotta slip from underhill clay.

They worked on stone, slate, board and paper, they worked using their own inspiration, the inspiration of the shadows falling on their stones and also thought of patterns and mark-making that reflected the type of paints they were using.

There was obvious enjoyment in this very simple task, and when the sun dried the paint quickly, a second layer could be applied to strengthen the colour. Many stones were taken home, and some were left to remember the day.
