We spent an uplifting evening at the opening event of Wenlock Edge Poetry Festival last night listening to poetry written and read by Frieda Hughes. There is no substitute for hearing poetry read by the author!

As a bonus, some of her large paintings were on display, and she explained their significance and their position in terms of her life experiences.

Several years ago I was invited to see a large collection of her paintings on display in Cork Street, and noticed how beautifully they were framed, with wide white borders, setting off her varied and vigorous colour palette.

Last night’s collection included two calmer abstracts and another onto which she had superimposed one of her poems.

See more of Frieda’s work, and find out about her exhibitions on her website

Frieda’s poetry books are published by Harper Collins, and you can browse through a few of them on the Harper Collins website.

No substitute for having the books – so good to dip into and therefore pack for that short or long break you are promising yourself!
