Took the scenic trip to Ruthin Craft Centre today and, after a delicious meal eaten outside at a sun-flooded table,  thoroughly enjoyed the current exhibition CARVING OUT SPACE beautifully curated by Amanda Game.

Guy Taplin carved birds, Gray Breeze letterforms, Warwick Freeman jewellery, Jim Partridge and Liz Walmsley furniture and one of my favourite sculptors, David Nash. All works displayed beautifully together

I came away empowered by the power of the minimal. All are undoubtedly amazing craftspeople and their thinking is really refreshing. However, for me David Nash just stands head and shoulders above the others in the power  and simplicity of the statements he makes using wood. His burnt pieces have a deep blackness that is really impressive.
