REMEMBER Jas Davidson’s  THREE JOLLY DRINKERS OUTSIDE THE GRIFFIN ON ALBION HILL?? WELL Geoff Armitage of INSIDE OUT HAS GONE INSIDE THE GRIFFIN AS WELL!!

THREE years of ‘People Watching’ by a Gobowen photographer Geoff Armitage has resulted in a fascinating free exhibition in Oswestry’s Griffin Inn on Albion Hill.

Geoff specialised in industrial photography as well as press work during his time in Hampshire and Brittany, and currently in Gobowen, and has linked up with the Albion’s licensees Gary and Carol Brennan.

In their two years in the town the couple has been keen to support the visual arts and Geoff’s exhibition of pictures, which runs till January 7, is just one of the attractions the innovative pair have brought to the town.

There have been music nights including jazz, country and folk as well as art exhibitions for drinkers to enjoy, as they support the ‘Inside Out Art Group’ and, in particular, Jas Davidson’s sculptures, which surprise passers-by as they are securely strapped to the outside of the pub wall.

For the foreseeable future, inside the pub, customers will be entertained by a wide screen television, in the main bar, which is running a continuous slide show of 200 of Geoff’s best photographs.

Carol and Gary make a point of splitting their attention between keeping their customers happy and making art easily accessible to the public – and at no cost to the artists who display there.

Photographer Geoff told The Chronicle: “It has been a thrill to work with Carol and Gary and help support the visual arts in Oswestry.

“I have 13 framed photographs on display, of a variety of folk I have come across in my people watching across Europe, as well as a rolling view of 200 photographs from over many years.”
