Ellesmere Sculpture Initiative

Call for Entry

Call for entry 2012 Sculpture: Ellesmere Sculpture Initiative would like to commission an artist to produce a permanent sculpture, to be located in a public place outside the Ellesmere Town Hall in Shropshire.

The piece is to add to the existing  Sculpture Trail, currently of 23 sculptures, in the landscape around the town.

The piece: To reflect the historical aspect of ‘Rope Way’ opposite the Town Hall  where rope was made, and the uses of rope in local canal history.  The sculpture should be of sufficient scale and material to have a visual impact when seen from a distance.  It will be located  adjacent to a busy roundabout  entrance to the town.  A material we have considered is stainless steel rope,  but we would be open to designs in other materials.

The piece should have an overall footprint of no more than 3m x 3m; no higher than 6m; should be securely anchored to a suitable plinth to avoid theft, and be maintenance free.

The commission:  An award of up to £5,000 to the chosen artist which would include fabrication, transport and installation.

Dates:  Entries due by 30th April 2012, and installation by 30th June 2012

Submission: Please send full C.V., images of at least 3 previous pieces, 2 references and ideas for the sculpture.
