It’s been almost three months since Martin and I really went out on any kind of proper walk. The start of shooting season, Christmas, New Year – seems like there was always something to stop us getting out.

But, new year – new determination to get out as often as possible. This week we decided to brave the weather and head up onto the flanks of Llantysilio Mountain from the little town of Carrog in the Dee Valley. The sky was grey but the threatened rain held off and the weather stayed mild and slightly breezy.

We parked in Carrog itself, just off the B5437 on the small road just passing in front of the school. For those coming from Llangollen, take the A5 west out of Llangollen and cross over the Dee on the Pont Carrog, just past the Carrog railway station. We walked up the road from the…
