Gabriel Dawe - Plexus No. 9

Hayley – this one’s for you! This comes via Betsy Wills’ Artstormer blog.

For anyone who doesn’t know these pieces, this is the work of Mexican artist Gabriel Dawe, working with thread, string and the materiality of the Mexican textile industry – traditionally reserved for female workers only. His work, in addition to being visually stunning, references and seeks to subvert notions of socially-constructed “traditional” masculine and feminine roles, as well as relate them to evolutionary theory and ideas about the self-organising principles of nature.
