CALLING ALL ARTISTS

A call is going out to artists and craftspeople to create and submit work for an exhibition in May: ‘Art and Craft in the Celtic Spirit’.

The event will be held in the ancient church of St Melangell, three miles from Llangynog at the head of the Tanat Valley and famous for its historic shrine and its remote and beautiful setting.  It will run for two weeks from Saturday 26 May.

The exhibition’s title can be interpreted imaginatively and the organisers, the church and Pennant Melangell Arts and Heritage Group, hope to receive art or craft entries in a wide range of media, in traditional or modern style and in two or three dimensions.  Work can be offered for display or for sale, with a commission in aid of the church and the St Melangell Centre: up to three items can be entered.

The exhibition is being held around the traditional feast day of St Melangell and will be accompanied by other events, to include a children’s hymn competition and a treasure hunt.  It will be opened by the archaeologist Margaret Hill, who will give a talk on ‘Early Celtic Art and Craft’ and close with a concert on 10 June featuring the well known Montgomeryshire folk singer Linda Griffiths, with her daughter Lisa.  The events are intended to honour the theologian and Celtic scholar Canon Donald Allchin, who died last year and loved the church at Pennant.

Entries are requested by 14 May.  Full details and an entry form are available from Pam Parnell, 1 Glen Pennant, Llangynog, Oswestry, SY10 0EP.  Enquiries to sparnell115@aol.com or 01691 860188.

A visit to Rowanthorn

Today I paid a visit to Rowanthorn in Bailey Street Oswestry and met Mike who runs it. Mike kindly allows Inside Out Art group to display works in a back area of the shop, and it was great to see Maddy’s work there looking great.

For the ARTWORKS project I have recently decided to make artworks in response to the Rowanthorn business. I was stunned by the colours, and of course also the fabrics, and this place has got me all enthused! Couldn’t leave without buying a scarf. It’s an Alladin’s cave. Don’t forget to drop buy sometime…. Welcome to our new website!

Sketching Day at Whittington Castle!

It was great to see June and Rachael come along to the sketching day today – they are two artists who can never attend our monthly Wednesday meetings, so it was good to catch up with them both.

I am posting a few pics – including the lovely one of the white doves under the eaves that John, June and Rachael have taken, and a couple of sketches of mine.

Everyone had a good time in spite of the sun not even blinking at us once. (Hot food in the White Lion pub at lunchtime restored us to a normal temperature!)

Thanks to all who came – and we look forward to the next session – every second saturday of the month – watch this space for our next venue.

Cordelia Weedon has put some of her stunning Uganda photos on this website. Have a look and
give them a vote if you like them. Please pass onto to anyone else
who might be interested.

Don’t miss this wonderful interactive show…….!

A message from Jenny B  who says……
“don’t miss veiwing /playing at Wilf’s “The First” show in the Willow Gallery, Oswestry.
It is such an exciting show to interact and have fun with, the work is innovative and covers a wide subject range.
I have just completed a small work about Dancing where veiwers can make a little music.
In Wilf’s large works on dancing veiwer can take hold of extra arms and help many people dance all at once, what joy!
you will be able to change landscapes and much more.
I feel that when you experience it you will urge all you friends to do likewise.
I had previously booked for one of Wilf’s “On” events, after seeing the show I’ve signed up for two more and can’t wait.
DO go and participate.

After meeting Wilf – who was re-hanging some work, Jim, who’d walked 6 miles in from Chirk, Jenny, who’d come to collect Jim, Chloe,  and Tereska, and discussing the Hockney exhibition in London and Wilf’s exhibition at The Willow Gallery, and eating a warming lunch, Sandy and I headed off to North Shropshire Architectural Salvage. Thank goodness the sun was shining because the temperature  was Siberian. We took photographs and had a good trawl around the place and got permission for a sketching day there in the future. It’s a great place to visit – lots of inspiration for artists and home-makers alike.
